Forty contributors share their perspectives on photography in Lebanon, evoking its equally numerous forms of existence. Examining techniques, practices, uses, objects, images, histories, and artistic approaches, this publication presents 380 photographs produced between the end of the 19th century and the present day.
This book consists of forty contributions, comprising interviews, theoretical and philosophical essays, and historic and artistic perspectives which together deal with the many facets of the field of photography. Researchers, historians, academics, essayists, archaeologists, artists, photographers, filmmakers, and collectors create “windows” that will enable the reader to observe and question multiple realities, namely those of photography and Lebanon. These forty viewpoints offer possibilities and “thought guidelines”, as well as influence how we perceive and interpret what is meant by “Photography in Lebanon”. The photographs gathered come from Lebanese and worldwide Institutions as well as private collections and archives. They were produced in Lebanon between 1842 and 2018.
